Anxiety Disorder
Anxiety Disorder
Anxiety is a normal part of life, but when it becomes overwhelming and disrupts daily routines, it may develop into anxiety disorders. These conditions are more than temporary worry or fear — they persist over time and can significantly affect emotional well-being, physical health, and overall quality of life.
Anxiety disorders involve excessive fear, worry, or nervousness that is difficult to control and often disproportionate to the situation. While occasional stress is common, people experiencing chronic anxiety may feel anxious frequently, often without a clear trigger. This can interfere with work, relationships, and daily functioning.
Types of Anxiety Disorders
There are several types of anxiety disorders, each with distinct features:
- Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD): Persistent and excessive worry about common, everyday events, like work, health, or finances.
- Panic Disorder: Characterized by sudden and intense episodes of panic or fear, often accompanied by physical symptoms like chest pain, heart palpitations, and shortness of breath.
- Social Anxiety Disorder: Fear of social interactions or being judged by others, leading to extreme self-consciousness and avoidance of social situations.
- Phobias: Intense, irrational fear of specific things or situations, like flying, heights, or certain animals. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD): Anxiety that occurs after experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event, causing flashbacks, nightmares, and heightened alertness.
Understanding the specific types of anxiety disorders helps guide the most effective care approach.
Signs and Symptoms
Common symptoms of anxiety may include:
- Excessive worry, restlessness, or nervousness
- Trouble sleeping or staying asleep
- Rapid heartbeat, shortness of breath, or trembling
- Difficulty concentrating or focusing
- Feeling tense, irritable, or on edge
- Avoiding places or situations that trigger anxiety

A. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy: :
One of the most effective treatments for anxiety disorders, CBT helps individuals identify and challenge negative thinking patterns that fuel anxiety. Through CBT, you learn to reframe your thoughts, allowing you to respond to stress in healthier ways.
B. Medications Management::
In some cases, medication may be prescribed to help manage anxiety. Common medications include selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs), or benzodiazepines, depending on the severity of symptoms.
C. Ketamine Therapy:
Ketamine, once primarily used as an anesthetic, has emerged as a fast-acting treatment option for anxiety and other mood disorders. Administered in a controlled clinical setting, ketamine can help reduce anxiety symptoms quickly, often in individuals who haven’t responded well to traditional treatments. It works by restoring connections in brain circuits involved in mood and emotion regulation.
- E. Neurostimulation Treatments:
Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS):
tDCS uses low-intensity electrical currents to target areas of the brain responsible for anxiety. This painless procedure has shown promising results in reducing anxiety symptoms and improving mood.
Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS):
rTMS uses magnetic fields to stimulate specific brain regions linked to mood regulation. It’s particularly effective for individuals with anxiety and depression, offering relief without the side effects commonly associated with medications.
